Abstract

Abstract A subcutaneous injection of 10 μg estradiol cyclopentylpropionate (ECP) on day 5 of pregnancy or pseudopregnancy in hysterectomized rats caused luteolysis as well as termination of pregnancy or pseudopregnancy. Addition of indomethacin concurrently with ECP in either of the experimental conditions consistently neutralized the luteolytic efficacy of ECP; the pregnancy or pseudopregnancy of the treated rats was maintained and all other parameters so far tested were found to be parallel to controls. The possible mechanism of the luteolytic property of ECP is discussed.
