Abstract

Abstract We compute the contribution induced by the chiral anomaly in the total helicity of fermionic constituents of a polarized hadron. We unify previous perturbative and nonperturbative determinations and we show that due to nonperturbative QCD effects the EMC measurements of polarized structure functions may be consistent with a large quark spin component, even in the absence of gluon polarization.
