Abstract

Abstract The characteristics of electret discharge under open circuit conditions are investigated theoretically. The use of the Debye equation makes it possible to analyse the interaction between depolarization and the transport of space charge injected during the preparation of the sample. An approximate analytical solution is obtained and is verified by numerical calculations. It is shown that the effect of the space charge electric field on the relaxation of non-equilibrium polarization leads to a reduction of the maximum value of the voltage across the sample.
