Abstract

Abstract A procedure is described for staining proteins with a Remazol dye during denaturation before analysis by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Stained proteins may be applied immediately to the gel or first further denatured by reduction of disulfide bridges. The migration of the proteins during their electrophoresis through the gel may be followed by eye, giving results shortly after sample application, and allowing termination of electrophoresis when optimum resolution has been achieved. The method is illustrated by the preparation of prestained proteins for use as running guides, and for rapid analysis of the purity of samples of γ-globulin and influenza virus.
