Abstract

Abstract It is shown that at resonance incidence the absorption of laser radiation on the surface of a metallic grating is highly amplified, both within and outside the irradiation spot. The phenomenon is particularly useful in obtaining better energy coupling/transfer from a high-intensity laser radiation to metallic samples when surface periodical structures featuring such characteristics form on the irradiation sites during the action of the laser radiation.
