Abstract

Abstract The response of forty-five persons with, or without, cardiac, pulmonary and combined cardiopulmonary disease to a modified stairclimbing exercise test has been studied, and the “oxygen debt” measured. The results have been compared with those of other types of function tests, and the limitations of interpretation pointed out. Although the series of cases is small, the results indicate that the test is important as an objective method of evaluating diminution in cardiopulmonary reserve.
