Abstract

Abstract The thermal decomposition of nitrocellulose at high temperature with a rapid heating rate was investigated by use of pyrolysis-gas chromatography, and its pyrolytical products were identified by high-resolution pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. For comparison with the pyrolysis, the thermal decomposition products of nitrocellulose at low temperature with slow heating rate were scanned and determined by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry. The potential of pyrolysis-gas chromatography for studying the thermostability and pyrolysis mechanisms of propellants is discussed.
