Abstract

Abstract In the presence of inorganic electrolyte such as CaCl 2 or KCl, the decomposition of dickite during diluted HCl preconditioning is promoted, specially at short times, perhaps through an ion exchange reaction. Therefore, in the neutral pH range, sufficient flotation recovery of dickite is attained by preconditioning for 5 minutes in 5 × 10 −4 kmol/m 3 HCl solution containing 4 × 10 −4 kmol/m 3 CaCl 2 or 1 × 10 −2 kmol/m 3 KCl. Good separation of dickite and quartz can be made for the particles coarser than 2 μm, although the separation is still unsatisfactory for the particles finer than 2 μm.
