Abstract

Abstract Persistent abnormalities in the electrocardiogram have been induced by stimulation of the ventral hippocampus and the medial nuclei of the amygdala. Most frequently seen were inversion and increased amplitude of the T wave, deviation of the S-T segment, and prolongation of the Q-T interval. These changes were transient during the first period of stimulation but became persistent after subsequent stimulation. Transection of the cervical spinal cord caused the disappearance of these abnormalities and a return of the electrocardiogram to its prestimulation state.
