This is part of the second issue of interest-bearing currency authorized by North Carolina’s colonial assembly in 1758. The holder of this note could receive six-percent interest (about fourteen-and-a-half pence) on its face value if it were returned to the public treasury the year after its release, a date recorded here in handwriting: September 20, 1759.
