Abstract

Abstract Infrared spectra have been obtained for 18O and D isotopically enriched trifluoroacetic acid monomers isolated in argon matrices. The 18O isotope effect is particularly clear for the nominal COH angle bending vibration. The new data are combined with literature results on several related CF 3-containing molecules to present a self-consistent compilation of vibrational assignments for the entire group. The basic molecules are CF 3COOH, (CF 3CO) 2O, CF 3CHO, CF 3CFO, CF 3CClO and CF 3COSH.
