Abstract

Abstract Far-infrared reflectivity measurements on orthorhombic ceramic samples of Y 1− x Pr x Ba 2Cu 3O y ( x = 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6) were made over the temperature range of 5–300 K. The temperature and Pr concentration dependences of phonon features were studied. The observed temperature softening and sharpening of the mode at ∼ 320 cm −1 for x = 0.2 indicates that the value of the energy gap (2Δ 2) is not changed proportionally to T c . Instead of this mode complex broad features were observed for higher Pr concentration. An increase in frequency of the ∼ 570 cm −1 mode with the increase of Pr content was observed.
