Abstract

Abstract Secretory IgA antibody which alone did not mediate antibody-dependent cytotoxicity (ADCC) by polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs), monocytes, or lymphocytes, caused significant elevation of the IgG-ADCC carried out by these cells. This corresponds to the expression of receptors for both IgA and IgG on subpopulations of PMNs and monocytes, and implies that some lymphocytes may bear both receptors. It also suggests a mechanism whereby secretory IgA participates in immune defense.
