Abstract

By taking stringent precautions in the preparation of coal specimens and the measurement of infra-red spectra, Lambert-Beer's law has been confirmed to be applicable for 3450cm −1 absorption. The variation of 3450 and 1260cm −1 absorptions with different ranks of coals are discussed in terms of specific extinction coefficients. A correlation between these two absorptions has been established.
