Abstract

Abstract An in-situ photothermal spectroscopy method using a polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) pyroelectric film detector was developed for investigating the anodic layer formed on a nickel electrode. The variations of the in-situ photothermal spectroscopic signal on the nickel electrode in 1 M NaOH solution reflected the composition changes of the surface layer between Ni(OH) 2 and NiOOH at different potentials. This method was very sensitive and useful for measuring surface phenomena at an electrode.
