Ceramic figurine representing the conjoined twins Eng and Chang Bunker, ca. 1830s. The figurine depicts the Bunker twins wearing only loincloths, and has a white glaze with hand-painted details to faces, hair, and loincloths. The loincloth on Eng (left) is painted with gold stripes; Chang's loincloth is painted green. The band of flesh that connected the real-life brothers is substantially exaggerated in this figurine. The base bears the inscription "Siam Zwillinge" (German for "Siamese Twins"). Numerals [588] appear to be impressed on the backside of the "tablet" on which the figures are shown leaning. The figurine was made presumably as a souvenir for the German market. Dimensions: 8.4 cm high, extreme width 3.25" x 2" (8cm x 5cm).
