Ceramic figurine representing the conjoined twins Eng and Chang Bunker, ca. 1830s. The figurine depicts the Bunker twins wearing only loincloths, and has a white glaze with hand-painted details to faces, hair, and loincloths. The loincloth on Eng (left) is painted with gold stripes; Chang's loincloth is painted green. The band of flesh that connected the real-life brothers is substantially exaggerated in this figurine. The base bears the inscription "Siam Zwillinge" (German for "Siamese Twins"). Numerals appear to be impressed on the backside of the "tablet" on which the figures are shown leaning. The figurine was made presumably as a souvenir for the German market. Dimensions: 8.4 cm high, extreme width 3.25" x 2" (8cm x 5cm).
