Abstract

Abstract The optical spectra of graphite is calculated over a range of 40 eV. The calculations are based on the ab initio self-consistent field energy band structure of graphite using norm-conserving pseudopotentials. The calculated ϵ(ω) is in excellent agreement with the results from reflectivity and electron energy loss measurements.
