NearnsNote2 172 Volume 19, No. 3, September, 2005, INSECTA MUNDI Fisher (1932) described Pentomacrus puncta- tus from eight specimens, the holotype of which is a male specimen deposited in the USNM, type locality Santiago de las Vegas, Cuba (Fig. 1b). Giesbert (1985) synonymized Pentomacrus with Plectromerus. Plectromerus punctatus (Fisher) is listed as endemic to Cuba (Fisher 1932, Monné 2005, Monné and Hovore 2003, Peck 2005). The type genus for the tribe is Curius Newman, 1840, which currently contains two species: the type species for the genus C. dentatus Newman (Fig. 1a), known from southeastern United States and C. panamensis Bates, 1885, known from Pan- ama. During the senior author’s revisionary work on the tribe Curiini LeConte, 1873, Plectromerus punc- tatus (Fisher) was found to possess many of the characters listed by Linsley (1963) for the genus Curius, including depressed form, integument opaque (shining in Plectromerus), antennae with fourth segment a little shorter than fifth (very much shorter than fifth in Plectromerus), prono- tum rounded at sides (nearly straight in Plec- tromerus), legs with femora gradually clavate (sud- denly clavate in Plectromerus), and abdomen with first segment as long as following two together (as long as following three in Plectromerus). Based on these shared characteristics, a new combination, Curius punctatus (Fisher), is proposed. References cited Chemsak, J. A., E. G. Linsley, and F. A. Nogu- era. 1992.
