Abstract

Abstract The directional correlation of the 123 keV and 14 keV gamma lines in Fe 57 has been investigated. The mother nucleus is the 270 day Co 57, decaying by K-capture to Fe 57. The influence of self absorption and scattering in the source as well as the influence of the chemical form of the source was investigated. In the correlation function W( θ) = 1+ A 2 P 2 (cos θ)+ A 4 P 4(cos θ) the coefficients A 2 and A 4 were determined as A 2 = −0.024±0.003, A 4 = 0±0.01. Mixing ratios of the gamma rays are discussed.
