Abstract

Abstract Measurements of the elastic constant ( C 33) and the ultrasonic attenuation associated with the propagation of longitudinal waves down the c-axis of Ho-50% Tb alloy, are presented. Both show anomalous behaviour on increasing the temperature from below the Curie temperature and this effect is attributed to domain effects in the anti-ferromagnetic spiral spin state.
