roblem description Occupational health and safety is an area that is becoming highlighted partly because the legislation is getting stricter but also since a lot of companies realize the importance of taking care of human resources. For this reason interest is growing for an occupational health and safety management system that also is compatible with ISO 9000 and ISO 14001. OHSAS 18001 was jointly developed by a number of national standard and certification bodies to meet these requirements. Trelleborg Protective Products AB (TPP AB) is already having a well developed occupational health and safety work but wishes to improve it even further and implement OHSAS 18001. The motive for this is to live up to occupational health and safety legislation and to improve the situation for the employees. V Objective The objective with this investigation and the thesis is to map the occupational health and safety work at TPP AB and to compare it with the occupational health and safety legislation and the requirements according to OHSAS 18001. Further, the objective is, by using the mapping and benchmarking, to generate suggestions on how to develop and improve the occupational health and safety work at TPP AB. Method The study has been conducted as a number of case studies with an explorative, descriptive and normative approach. In order to perform the mapping, observations, interviews, inspection of documentaries and an inquiry study has been carried out. A benchmarking has been conducted to get inspiration from how other companies has chosen to organise and structure their occupational health and safety management systems. Conclusions At the moment TPP AB has a good base to deal with the occupational health and safety work but there is room for improvement. When it comes to observance of the law there are only a few things to complain about. To get certified the company has to clarify the structure and responsibilities for the occupational health and safety work. TPP AB also has to improve the communication with their employees and needs to set up goals for the occupational health and safety work. In contrast to today’s work the company needs to work more proactive with the occupational health and safety matters and with regularity overview and audit the present work.
