Abstract

Abstract The heat capacity of sodium azide was determined from 5 to 350 K by adiabatic calorimetry and a thermal anomaly associated with a structural transformation of the crystalline lattice was observed in the heat capacity at (293.0±0.1) K. The excess entropy associated with this transition was determined to be only (0.008±0.001) cal th K −1 mol −1. At 298.15 K, the values for C p , S, {H(T)−H(0)} T , and −{G(T)−H(0)} T , respectively, are 18.31, 23.15, 11.813, and 11.340 cal th K −1 mol −1.
