Abstract

Abstract The study of the Cs 2Mo 6Se 6Mo 6Se 8 system has afforded the new structural type Cs 2Mo 12Se 14 containing only Mo 12Se 14 cluster units. This compound crystallizes in the R3 space group with a stacking of the Mo 12Se 14 similar to that of the Mo 6X 8 and Mo 12X 14 unit in Mo 6X 8 and Tl 2Mo 9X 11 (X = S, Se). Electrical resistivity measurements performed on single crystal indicate that Cs 2Mo 12Se 14 is a metallic conductor with an unusual temperature dependence of its resistivity. Furthermore, it exhibits a superconducting transition at 4.7 K.
