Abstract

Abstract The oxidative response of marrow lymphocytes was measured with the Clark oxygen electrode and was shown to be remarkably constant over a 30 minute incubation period. Oxygen uptake by these cells was significantly increased in serum compared with that in Tyrodes solution. Rates of oxygen consumption indicated that marrow lymphocytes carry on a substantial level of metabolism and appear not to be excessively damaged by the separation procedure. The feasibility of using the Coulter Counter for routine checking of the size distribution of lymphocyte populations separated from rat bone marrow was also demonstrated.
