Abstract

Abstract A critical examination of the work of E.J.A. Henderson in Prosodic Phonology (PP) clearly reveals the inadequacy of PP as a theory of phonology. The clarity of presentation of Henderson's publications in particular creates a context in which the difficulties of formally and uniquely interrelating PP concepts can be patently demonstrated and in which the underlying suggestive value of PP for the establishment of a more appropriate theory of phonology can be made manifest.
