Abstract

Mr. and Mrs. John Harris operated the Gould City store and post office for a number of years (roughly 1900 – 1911) along with their son Jim, who was disabled. They were known as Grandpa and Grandma Harris by everyone and were greatly liked. John Harris was a Civil War veteran and loved to tell stories about the war and his early days in the west. They put a long distance telephone and a soda fountain in the store about 1906 or 1907.
