Abstract

Abstract The main objective of the reclamation of the Volgermeerpolder refuse dump is to reduce environmental and public health hazards to a very low degree. This is going to be achieved by completely encapsulating the dumping site and by lowering the groundwater level. Remedial actions to be executed are: 1. 1. constructing a drainage system; 2. 2. covering the topsoil with HDPE-foil; 3. 2. installing vertical screens around the polluted area; 4. 4. building a water treatment plant.
