Effect of particle irradiation on Ba0.6K0.4BiO3thin films

Abstract

Abstract Radiation-induced changes in the superconducting transition temperature T c and the zero-field critical current density at 4.2 K are reported for Ba 0.6K 0.4BiO 3 (BKBO) thin films irradiated with 1, 2, and 3 MeV protons and 4 and 6 MeV helium ions. Displacement damage decreases T c at the same rate for BKBO as for the hign- T c cuprates. The critical current density decreases approximately exponentially with increasing fluence at a rate that is directly proportional to the nonionizing energy loss of an incident particle.
