Abstract

Abstract Ventriculostomy and lumbar puncture are techniques that are used for diagnosis and treatment of a variety of disorders related to the central nervous system. Ventriculostomy allows direct access to the intraventricular compartments, whereas lumbar puncture allows access to the spinal reservoir of cerebrospinal fluid. Although the overall incidence of complications related to these interventions is low, patients need to be selected carefully.
