Abstract

Abstract Contrary to some theoretical considerations we show that the presence of an external electrical field always stimulates vapor bubble formation in superheated liquids. This one facilitates liquid drop formation in supersaturated vapor too, provided that its value exceeds some threshold. This threshold decreases in nonuniform field. These conclusions are in qualitative agreement with many experimental results concerning prebreakdown state of liquid dielectrics.
