Abstract

Highlights • The idea of non-classical ‘oriented attachment growth’ has a history of more than a century. • Fluorides precipitate from aqueous solutions via hierarchical crystal formation. • Primary nanoparticles merge in submicron single crystals as per SEM, TEM and XRD data. • Addition of surfactant leads to formation of mesocrystals.
