Abstract

Abstract Surgical treatment of facial scars and their revision demands meticulous attention to details. Specific surgical management depends largely on the type and size of the scar and involvement of special structures. The best approach in soft tissue reconstruction is a method that utilizes the anatomic tissue available in the most efficient manner. Detailed methods, including multiple stage excision, a V-Y maneuver, Z plastic technic, skin grafting, and surgical scalpel planing, are presented. Vital areas of the face with involved scars and a discussion of the best corrective approach are detailed. Particular mention is made of kinetic structures such as the eyelids and lips. The public today is aware of advances in reparative surgery and the ability to have secondary disfigurements corrected. The importance of function and appreciation of esthetic appearance are recognized. Achievement of good results by adhering to accepted principles of scar revision justifies the multiple plastic technic approach.
