Out-of-plane microwave conductivity of the cuprates in the superconducting state

Abstract

Abstract We measured the microwave loss Δ( 1 2 Q) and frequency shift Δf/ f of Bi 2Sr 2CaCu 2O y ( T c ∼ 94 K) for E ω ‖ c, for the first time. Both a very sharp peak in Δ 1 2 Q) and a sudden drop in Δ/ f/ f were found at T c . These anomalies at T c were attributed to the Josephson plasma resonance, and the out-of-plane microwave conductivity was found to remain small even in the superconducting state. This result is consistent with the previously obtained results that σ 1 c ( T) for YBCO and LSCO strongly depend on the out-of-plane transfer energy even in the superconducting state.
