Abstract

Abstract The Cu K β / K α intensity ratios have been measured for copper compounds of Cu 2 O, CuO, Cu 2 S, CuS, CuF 2 and CuCl 2 and high- T c superconducting cuprates of Y( Ba 1− x Sr x ) 2 Cu 3−0.21 x Mo 0.21 x O y with x=0 − 1. The large increase of Cu K β / K α intensity ratio in high- T c superconductor relative to other copper compounds is interpreted as the increase of transitions from Cu valence band to Cu(1s) state, when Cu(3d) and O(2p) are highly hybridized. The decrease ofCu K β / K α intensity ratio with the increase of x in the high- T c superconducting cuprates indicates both the Sr and Mo ions have negative input to the degree of hybridization of Cu(3d) and O(2p) bands.
