Abstract

The effect of the bacterium Pseudomonas paucimobilis on sporulation and germination in Pilobolus crystallinus was investigated. No sporangia were produced in the presence of the bacterium on autoclaved rabbit pellets inoculated with P. crystallinus spores. Autoclaved pellets colonized by mycelium prior to inoculation with the bacterium produced significantly fewer sporangia than in the absence of the bacterium. There was complete inhibition of spore germination by the bacterium on rabbit dung agar.
