Abstract

Abstract Ionization efficiency curves have been measured for the production of NH 3 +, NH 2 + and NH + from NH 3 by electrons having energies up to 300 eV. When the results are normalized to a recent semi-empirical total ionization cross-section calculation by Jain and Khare, there is serious disagreement both in the shapes and absolute values of the cross-sections compared with those reported by Gomet. Arguments are put forward which suggest that the present results are to be preferred.
