Abstract

Abstract Grain growth in a binary alloy is considered. In contrast to common conception it is shown that under certain conditions the precipitation of second-phase particles may accelerate grain boundary motion and, as a result, speed up grain growth in the system. The conditions under which this effect occurs are outlined. We present experimental data that support the predicted effect.
