Abstract

Abstract A rather general frame for the phenomenological description of large inelastic deformations of solid bodies including damage processes can be based on some fundamental assumptions concerning the kinematics of the body and the thermodynamical state of the material elements. Particular balance equations for specific energy and entropy are developed within this frame leading to certain restrictions in the formulation of constitutive laws. This will be discussed, particularly with respect to damage processes involved in inelastic deformations.
