White perch Morone americana in Albemarle Sound, North Carolina were collected to study length-, weight-, and age-specific fecundity relationships. Fecundity was estimated gravimetrically for 115 fish ranging (176–318 TL mm) collected from April–May 2006. White perch demonstrated high fecundity by size. Sampled white perch were mature by age-2. The Gonadosomatic Index (GSI) ranged from 1.6 to 19.1 (mean 5 9.7 6 0.3 S.E.) but was not related to the size or age of the fish. Estimated mean fecundity was 221,000 (S.E. 6 9,760) eggs/female (933 eggs/g body weight). Length-, weight- fecundity relationships showed few differences in the current estimates, suggesting that the more easily obtained length-specific fecundity relationship (Fecundity 5 2192,000 6 1,640 L(TL mm); r2 5 0.35) is appropriate for future white perch fecundity modeling. INTRODUCTION White perch Morone americana is a common fish that is usually found in brackish water and is also common in freshwater habitats (Carlander 1977). It is native to the northeast and mid-Atlantic coasts of the United States but has also invaded the Great Lakes (Scott and Christie 1963) and has been introduced in many states. White perch is a permanent resident to Albemarle Sound inhabiting open waters close to shore and deep channels areas where they overwinter.
