Appearance of News SMS as alternatively news distribution draw attention researcher to conduct research about it. Because is the part of growth of mass media which oftentimes join various media pattern become one unity (convergence). Ability of tidy media element and news value in this research is a principal focus, considering ability to delivery SMS which only including 160 letter character. Problems at this research is how big the comparison between Metro TV and Liputan 6 SCTV News SMS evaluated from news value. So this research aim to know comparison of news value which implied in News SMS between Metro TV and Liputan 6 SCTV. News value determined from what society enthusiasm to consume journalistic product. A news will become more competent if in it contain have various journalistic element called with news value. Because from news value, a news not just woke up and submitted, but also can play the reader/ audience emotion. So the reader/ audience not feel getting disadvantage when read/ to looking on news. Existence of news value also claim the reader to be more active in choosing news and have a certain attitude about some report. For that, researcher try to compare News SMS of Metro TV and Liputan 6 SCTV, facet from News Value. As for news value which used in this research with reference to actuality, prominence, progress and human interest. This research use descriptive quantitative research method using approach of content analysis. Content analysis selected because researcher try to roll out a content that expressed objectively, systematic, and quantitative, by string at meaning of context. Amount of News SMS that checked amount to 54 SMS for the Metro TV and 55 SMS for Liputan 6 SCTV. Data obtained from documentation of News SMS then grouped all News SMS pursuant to sequence of date and sender during 19 edition/ day, counted commencing from 1 August up to 19 August 2007. Step hereinafter conduct the coding result assisted by 2 people that usually called koder pursuant to category structure which have been made before and do reliability test use formula of Holsty that strenghtened with formula of Scott to get the value of Pi. Chi Square are the last step to answer hypothesizing, that is there or no difference in News SMS of Metro TV and Liputan 6 SCTV. The Research result indicate that total of frequency apparition of wellbalanced category among Liputan 6 SCTV and Metro TV is counted for 156 apparitions. Category that used is actuality, popularity (prominence) woke up by popularity of place, popularity of event, popularity will thedate of, popularity of situation, news progress and human interest which consist of stress element, bizzare but real and conflict. Category that have made pass by test using formula of Holsty and can be continued to count with Chi Square. In this research is known that pursuant to enumeration of Chi Square, hypothesizing zero (h0) was accepted that is no difference of news value in News SMS of Metro TV and Liputan 6 SCTV. Because result of Chi Square equal to 0.75 smaller than tables of that equal to 7.815. The result can be concluded that both of provider same lionize existence of news value will in construction a news. The statement strenghtened with apparition of wellbalanced category frequency between News SMS categorize frequency of Metro TV and Liputan 6 SCTV. According To the result, can be recommended to other researcher candidate to conduct a News SMS research using other research method. Considering News SMS are new alternative in news distribution.
