Abstract

Abstract The tetrasulfane tBu 3Si-S 4-Si tBu 3 was formed in high yield when S 2Cl 2 was treated with two equivalents of Na(thf) 2SSi tBu 3 in thf. X-ray quality crystals of the tetrasulfane tBu 3Si-S 4-Si tBu 3 (monoclinic space group P2 1/ c) were grown from a benzene solution at ambient temperature. UV-induced degradation of [Fe(CO) 5] in the presence of the tetrasulfane tBu 3Si-S 4-Si tBu 3 led to the formation of the carbonyliron complex [Fe 4( μ 4−S) 2(CO) 11].
