An interesting case of ecto- tumour was observed in a specimen of Otolithies cuvieri landed at New Ferry Wharf on 23/09/03. The fish measured 278 mm in total length and weighed 220gms. The tumorous outgrowth measured 17mm in diameter and was situated on the upper maxillary. It was orange in colour and connected to the body by a small strip of connective tissue. The nature of the atypical growth could not be investigated. Reported by: B.B. The fishermen pushed the dolphin to deeper area. But it died in a couple of hours. From the external characters, mainly the number of teeth it was identified as spinner dolphin, Stenella longirostris (Gray).
