Abstract The generalized Barcelona test proved to be adequate to characterize and control the fiber reinforced concretes (FRC) properties, providing results with a lower scatter than those obtained from other tests widely used to characterize properties of these concretes. This paper shows the results of an experimental program where this test is used to characterize steel fiber reinforced concretes properties, and the standard definition of toughness indexes is extended to be used with its results, to assess the fibers effect on the post-peak behavior with respect to matrix response.
