Abstract

Abstract The NdCeCuO phase diagram has been examined in the Nd 2CuO 4 - CeO 2 pseudobinary section, with the aim to find out the equilibria that lead to the formation of the Nd 1.85Ce 0.15CuO 4-δ superconducting phase, in the Nd 2−xCe xCuO 4 solid solution (α phase), in the compositional range x = 0.0 ÷ 0.6. The limit of extension of the α solid solution at room temperature appeared very restricted; it considerably increases over 1000°C and it reaches the maximum value ( x = 0.25) at T = 1200° C (in air). Our results display solid solution (and in particular the superconducting phase) to be a non equilibrium phase at room temperature.
