Abstract

Abstract Polarised-neutron diffraction has been used to study the spatial distribution of the induced magnetisation in a single crystal of PrBa 2Cu 3O 7. The spin density has been observed mainly on the Pr sites but also on the Ba sites, which is attributed to a substitution of 8% of the Ba ions by Pr. The spin density is found to deviate from the predicted density calculated from free-ion magnetic structure factors, and some residual induced magnetisation is observed on the Cu-O planes.
