Abstract

Abstract We describe the design and performance of an extensive air shower array which has been operated in its present configuration at Mount Hopkins, Arizona since 1987. The array has a threshold energy of 40 TeV and is located at the same site as the GRANITE VHE gamma ray astronomy experiment of the Whipple Observatory Collaboration.
