Abstract

Geomorphological analysis of the Xanthus river trough and its margins (Lycia, Turkey). Two main types of escarpments are recognized according to lithological and tectonic criteria. The main steps of the regional geomorphological evolution were the deepening of a pliocene polje turned later on into a villa franchian channel which was broken up by quaternary tectonic strokes while there was an enlargement of the fluvial catchment and an acceleration of karstic solution; the flood plain progressed during Holocene and was completed by versilian alluviation on the shoreline.
