Abstract

Abstract Detailed analysis of current theoretical approaches and empirical correlations between the KWW stretching exponent β and the molecular structure of single-component polymer systems suggests that the values of β for structural relaxation in the glass transition range change continuously with the kinetic free volume fraction f g k, rather than are fixed at the `universal' value β=3/7.
