Structure of neutrino mass matrix and implications for leptogenesis

Abstract

We constrain the structure of neutrino mass matrix using data from neutrino oscillation experiments. Considering this information and assuming hierarchical neutrino Yukawa couplings, we use the seesaw formula to study the properties of the heavy right-handed neutrinos N i . We find that successful baryogenesis via leptogenesis requires mass degeneracy and maximal mixing of N 1 and N 2.
