Abstract

Abstract When solutions of dinuclear metal carbonyls are irradiated with visible light in the presence of trialkyl- or triarylphosphines, carbonyl groups situated in positions trans to metal-metal bonds are replaced by the phosphine but carbonyl groups trans to phosphines or to other carbonyls are not attacked. When 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane is used instead of the monophosphine a number of products can be formed and evidence for the structures of these derivatives is adduced.
